Palazzo Papadopoli: the Greek Connection at George Clooney's Wedding in Venice

The seven star Aman Grande which opened last year in the 450 year old Palazzo Papadopoli,
the setting for the wedding reception of George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin

George Clooney, the world's most sought after bachelor, gets ready to relinquish his title as he ties the knot with British-Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin on Saturday in Venice, possibly the most romantic city in Italy.

And the party? Well, that's going to be at the Palazzo Papadopoli ...

Yes, you guessed correctly, Papadopoli as in Papadopoulos...the Italian version of the most common Greek name ever!

The Palazzo Papadopoli was built in the 1550's, and is an opulent Renaissance style palace, with rooms bedecked with magnificent paintings and historic wall frescoes.

In 1864, Counts Nicholas and Angelo Papadopoulos, who had come from Corfu (Kerkyra) in Greece, chose this stunning palace for the Papadopoulos family HQ in Venice.

George and Amal,
Kala Stefana!

Our best wishes to to you both for a long and blessed life together!!
Να ζήσετε!

PS We particularly like this couple because they have taken up a cause very dear to our hearts, and the hearts of all Global Greeks:
the Return of the Parthenon Sculptures!

The Greek Ministry of Culture released this presentation/sketch by Architect M Lefatzis’ of the interior of the tomb inside the Kasta Tumulus of ancient Amphipolis, Macedonia, Greece.

As speculation mounts on who - from Alexander the Great to his mother Olympias - could be lying in the death chamber, locals recall being told as children in the sixties to quieten down so as not to waken the Queen…

  • We would have included an article by National Geographic here but decided against it when we saw that they had two major fails in one of their articles.
They referred to FYROM as 'MACED' in a map in the article, and they incorrectly wrote ' Macedonia, now Northern Greece' instead of 'Macedonia, IN Northern Greece' in the same article.

On a humorous note, the regional governor of Serres, Mr Yiannis Moisiadis, told Parapolitika
a while back, that Archaeologists from FYROM offered their help at Amphipolis. Politely declining their request, Mr Moisiadis advised them that if anything written in Slavic is unearthed it will be sent to Skopje... (article in Greek)
